On Tuesday evening last week, at home, our Minor B2 footballers made their exit from the North Cork championship when they were well defeated by Ballycastle Gaels in the semi-final. The final score-line was Kildorrery 2-3 Ballycastle Gaels 4-9.

From the throw-in, Gaels took the game by the scruff of the neck but their opening attacks finished well wide of the target until their opening point came in the sixth minute. At the end of the first quarter, they had 1-4 on the board, while Kildorrery had failed to raise a flag. Twenty-one minutes had elapsed before they opened their account with a point by Cathal Harrington which proved to be their only score of the half.  At the break, the winners had 2-8 to their credit, their second goal coming in injury time.

After the resumption of play, Kildorrery were first to score when Cathal Harrington  pointed a free, after three minutes and they seemed to be coming more into the game.   Some positional changes seemed to be having the desired  effect, in general play, but poor finishing let them down. Ballycastle got through for their third goal in the tenth minute. From the resultant kick-out, Kildorrery forced a free which Anthony Crowley sent over the bar.  This was quickly negative by a like score from the winners. Mattie Walsh-O’Grady made his presence at full-forward felt with a great goal before the end of the third quarter.
We now trailed 1-3 to 3-9.  The next scores were goals, one apiece inside the last six minutes of normal time, Kildorrery’s coming from substitute Timmy O’Sullivan.

Team and scorers: Tony Watson, Mattie Walsh-O’Grady 1-0, Niall Higgins, David Hunter, Richie Hurley, John Hunter, Ian Butler, Kevin Nooonan, Paddy Piggot, Cathal Harrington  0-2fs, Anthony Crowley 0-1f, Eddie O’Regan, Kieran Hurley, Paddy Hartnett, Sean Cunningham.
