On Saturday evening last, at windswept and rain-soaked Watergrasshill, our Intermediate footballers qualified for the Co. championship semi-final by virtue of a deserved 0-13 to 0-9 win over city side, St Finbarr’s. While the game never reached any great heights, the best football played came from our boys, who never looked like losing. Once again, this was great all-round team performance with some fine individual efforts.
Kildorrery, playing with the advantage of the wind, blowing diagonally across the pitch in the opening half had their first score from Wm.Fouhy, in the fourth minute, to which St. Finbarr’s replied from a ‘45’. They did manage two more points before the end of the quarter, while Kildorrery had five to their credit at the same juncture. This proved to be the losers tally for the first half, while Kildorrery went on to increase their tally to eleven points , at the interval. In the 21st minute Kildorrery were awarded a penalty after a foul on Tom Monaghan . However, St.Finbarr’s goalie brought off a brilliant save from Tom, himself.
After the restart, the winners, now facing into the wind and the increasing heavy rain, increased their tally with a James O’Sullivan point, but Barr’s replied and by the end of the third quarter had reduced their deficit to six points 0-6 to 0-12. A minute into the last quarter and James O’Sullivan got through for his second point, but this proved to be their last score of the game, while Barr’s added three more.

While we commiserate with our representatives James and Ian on the defeat of the Cork Minor hurlers in the All-ireland final, last week-end, we are proud of them both on their being selected for the panel. We wish them the best of luck and hope to see them in the red jerseys in the future.
AWAY FROM HOME
Our exiled hurling goal-keeper, James McEniry, was in action last week-end when he played corner–back for San Francisco Tipperary in the North American hurling final, but unfortunately, he was on the losing side.
