On Tuesday evening last week, at the home venue, our Junior B footballers, while they gave of their best they were well beaten by a strong Grange team, in the Division 2 league. The final score-line read Grange 5-13 Kildorrery 1-06. Our boys did well enough in the opening half of this game and at the interval only trailed by two points, 1-3 to 0-8. However, after the restart, a couple of early Grange goals put the game beyond Kildorrery’s reach and so the visitors ran out easy winners on the above score.

Team and scorers; Sean Walsh, Richie Lillis, Tom P. Murphy, Anthony Palmer, John Cremin, Richie McEniry, Searunas Naviskinas, Shane Walsh 0-1, Ciaran O’Connor, James Fox 0-1, John McCarthy, Billy Hedigan, Cathal Walsh-O’Grady 1-2, Dave Roche 0-1, David Harrington 0-1. Sub. Pio O’Regan.

KILDORRERY 3-12 BALLYCASTLE GAELS 1-8

Our Under 21B hurlers opened their championship campaign with a convincing win over Ballycastle Gaels ( Ballyhooly/Castletownroche), at Glanworth, last Thursday evening. Kildorrery, although, having only fifteen players available, started as they finished, in determined fashion and within, two minutes Shane O’Neill, had the ball over the bar for the first of his personal tally of 3-3. Indeed, this was an encouraging all-round team performance with some outstanding individual efforts. While the Gaels did manage to level after five minutes, it was the last time during the game that they saw parity. At the end of the first quarter, Kildorrery led 0-4 to 0-1, and went on to lead at the interval, 1-7 to 0-3.

After the resumption of play, the losers had reduced their deficit with 1-2 within six minutes. Then came Shane’s second and third goals in as many minutes. Gaels did manage two points before the end of the third quarter, at which juncture the winners led 3-7 to 1-7. Inside the last quarter, Cathal Harrington with four pointsfrom placed balls and Shane with one from play secured a well-deserved victory.

Team: John Hunter, Searunas Naviskinas, Ian Butler, Cathal Walsh-O’Grady, Paddy Hartnett, Dylan Kent 0-1, Darren McNamara, Anthony Crowley, P.J.Keating 0-1, Paddy Pigott, Shane O’Neill 3-3, Cathal Harrington 0-7(0- 4fs,0-1 65), David Harrington, Tiernan Condon, Edmond O’Connell.
