On Wednesday night, last week, at our venue, Mitchelstown proved much too good for our Junior B footballers, when the sides met in the Division 3 league, winning on the score-line of 3-07 to 0-9.

KILDORRERY 1-10 CASTLELYONS 1-12

A somewhat disappointing result, perhaps, but an encouraging display, nevertheless, by our boys, in this Division 2 hurling league game, at Castlelyons, last Sunday mid-day. Kildorrery playing into the fresh breeze, from the throw-in, started well and their first attack yielded a free which Dave Kelly pointed and by the end of the first quarter led 0-3 to 0-2. However, from here to the break, the home side found their rythm and at the interval had added 1-4 to their tally to lead at that juncture 1-6 to 0-4. Their goal was perhaps, a little ‘lucky’ when Ian Butler was deceived by the ball which ricocheted off the upright and past him into the net.

Kildorrery were first to score, again, in the second half but Castlelyons had added two points to their tally before Kildorrery replied with two pointed frees before the end of the third quarter. Again, the sides exchanged a point from frees. The winners added two more before Peter O’Brien, from his unusual centre-back position, had a point. Castlelyons had their last score of the game in the fifty third minute. To their credit, Kildorrery battled on forcing a ‘65’ which the on-form Dave Kelly duly converted and the same player, found the back of the net with a twenty meter free with less than a minute of normal time remaining. Try as they might in added time, they failed to raise another flag, with the home side holding out to collect the points.

Team and scorers: Ian Butler, Darren McNamara, Shane Fitzgerald, Will Coffey, Liam Kelly, Peter O’Brien 0-1, P.J.Keating, James O’Sullivan, Dylan Kent, Jamie O’Gorman, Andrew O’Brien 0-1, Finbarr Stapleton 0-1, Shane O’Neill, Dave Kelly 1-6fs, 0-1(65), Eamonn O’Connor.
