Well done to our under 17’s who had a great victory against Dromtariffe on a score line of 4-14 to 3 09. They now go forward to a plate final against St Marks on a date that is to be confirmed.

Intermediate Hurlers fall to Midleton

Our Intermediate hurling competition came unravelled on Saturday last as Midleton demonstrated that the old saying is right, and it really is a game of two halves.

We started very progressively and led right through the first half with a tally at the end of the thirty minutes of 13 points to 8 and the wind at our backs. This was a display of control and hurling competently to keep that distance on the score board.

Points were traded per the ever-dependable Peter O' Brien with a brace of frees and with additional points from James Keating and Finbarr. Further points came per Cathal Harrington and James Keating.

One may have felt reasonably secure at the half time stage as we seemed to be in control but the Midleton team that came out in the second half was a different team that went in and at the water break of the second half they led by 2 13 to Kildorrery’s 14 points. This was an incredible 15 minutes from the Midleton men who tacked on two quick goals in succession with 5 additional points to our 1 in this quarter. As we review the year gone by, we might ask ourselves have we started slow after the second half. This may have been our ultimate down fall on this day and would mean that our journey on the road to glory would come to an abrupt stop. We managed through a point per peter to contain the differential to 2 points. Just after midleton went three points up Kildorrery were struck a hammer blow when James Keating came off injured. Jerry McCarthy came on for James.

The writing was on the wall. Midleton seemed to display a different class of conviction in the second half and displayed a mental resilience to overcome the first half deficit and they continued to tack points on to create a little bit more day light between the teams to run out comfortable winners.

As the dusk settles on the season, we may look back at an opportunity lost. We have a good group of players who are well able to compete at this level. They also need to be conscious that county titles wil be hard earned. To the players and mentors thank you for your efforts and maybe next year we will drive on again.
