On Tuesday night last week, at Mourneabbey, our Under 21B footballers failed in their bid to reach the final of the North Cork championship, when they went under to a strong Buttevant side on the score-line of 3-4 to 2-12.  From the throw-in Buttevant set up a number of early attacks but their finishing let them down and it was Kildorrery that opened the scoring with a point from Kevin Noonan in the sixth minute. Butttevant’s first point did not come until the twelfth minute and they added two more, one from a free, before the end of the first quarter.  A minute into the second quarter and Kildorrery had slipped into the lead with a great goal by Kevin Noonan. The winners levelled matters again within a minute. Again, Kidorrery replied with a point from an Anthony Crowley free, but they had to wait until the twenty-eighth minute for their next score by which time Buttevant had eight points to their credit and they added two more in injury time to lead at the break 0-10 to  1-3.

After the resumption of play, the sides exchanged a point from frees but Kieran Hurley got through for a goal, after great work by Sean Cunningham and the deficit was down to a point with just eight minutes of this second half gone. By the end of the third quarter, a point for Buttevant from a ‘45’ had them two points ahead.  Then followed the end of Kildorrery’ s hopes when the winners got through for two goals in quick succession. The last quarter turned out to be a rather tempestuous affair with some niggly fouls on both sides. Kildorrery finished the scoring with a goal by Ian Butler after a goalmouth scramble. And so Buttevant proceed to meet Clyda Rovers in the final.
