KILDORRERY 1-12 GLANMIRE 0-5

Our Intermediate footballers got the year off to a winning start when the defeated Glanmire in the Division 5 league, at the home venue, last Friday night. The winning score-line was Kildorrery 1-12 Glanmire 2-3. From the thro,w-in, Kildorrery playing into a stiff breeze, dominated the early exchanges and led at the end of the first quarter 0-3 to nil. However, they failed to score again in the half and the visitors came right into the game to lead at the break 1-2 to 0-3.

One minute into the second half Shane O’Neill reduced the deficit to the minimum from a free only to see Glanmire get through for their second goal seven minutes later. The sides exchanged a point and at the end of the third quarter Glanmire led 2-3 to 0-5.  But this was where the visitors’ scoring ended while Kildorrery now aided by the strengthening wind went on to add four points to their tally in as many minutes. A shot at goal in the 51st minute by Dylan Kent came of the upright into the welcoming arms of Shane Fitzgerald who finished to the net. Kildorrrery were now 1-9 to 2-3 ahead.  With a very determined last ten minutes performance they added three points to record a deserved victory.
