KILDORRERY 1-13 YOUGHAL 2-7

Last Sunday afternoon, at Rathcormac, our Intermediate footballers with a very determined last quarter performance saved themselves from relegation , when they recorded a 1-13 to 2-7 victory over Youghal in this relegation play-off.

From the throw-in, Kildorrery had the ball over the bar within twenty seconds. However, by the time they got their next point after eleven minutes, Youghal had 1-1 to their credit and by the end of the quarter, led by two, 0-3 to 1-2.   Two minutes into the second quarter Finbarr Stapleton won possession from a kick-out raced up-field and parted to Peter O’Brien who buried it in the net. James O’Sullivan and Jamie O’Gorman had a point each before Youghal got through for their second goal followed  by a point, which left them 2-3 to 1-5 ahead with just a minute of normal time remaining. Two minutes into injury time Kildorrery forced a free which Shane O’Neill converted to have the sides level at the break.

Kildorrery resumed after the interval with and early James O’Sullivan point after just two minutes. Poor finishing resulted in this being their only score until the fifty-third minute by which time Youghal had edged into a two point lead, 2-6 to 1-7.  Suddenly, Kildorrery adjusted their sights and two points from ShaneO’Neill had them on level terms before Youghal edged in front again with just five minutes of normal time remaining, but this proved to be their last score of the game. Kildorrery finished on a high with James O’Sullivan sending over three great points two of which came, deep in Injury time.   And so Kildorrery will be there to contest the Intermediate championship in 2020. Well done to team and management !
