KILDORRERY 1-13 KILBRITTAIN 0-13

Last Saturday afternoon at Donoughmore, our Intermediate hurlers saved themselves from relegation with a hard-earned but deserved victory over Kilbrittain in a relegation play-off. The margin separating the teams at the end of the game was the well-taken goal by Dylan Kent twenty-one minutes into the second half. The final score-line  was Kildorrery 1-13 Kilbrittain 0-13.

From the throw-in, Kildorrery were slow to get going and Kilbrittain had two points on the board, both from frees, before Shane O’Neill opened Kildorrery’s account in the tenth minute.  Finbarr Stapleton added another from the resultant puck-out. A Peter O’Brien free and James McEniry two from play had Kildorrery ahead 0-5 to 0-2 by the end of the first quarter. Peter added a point from a free and James Mc two from play had them eight points to two ahead by the time Kilbrittain had their third point after twenty four minutes of play.  The sides exchanged a point before the interval, and Kildorrery were ahead 0-9 to 0-4 at this juncture.

After the resumption of play, Shane O’Neill restarted as he had in the first half with a point. However, Kilbrittain had not gone away and by the end of ten minutes of the half had reduced their deficit to a single point, 0-9 to 0-10.  Just as they seemed to be taking control, Finbarr sent over a great point. The only other score before the end of the third quarter was a Kilbrittain point from a free and the margin was down to the minimum again. Then followed a scoreless six minutes before the decisive Dylan Kent goal. Once again Kilbrittain came back with two points, one from a free, before Peter with two from play had Kildorrery 1-13 to 0-12 in front before Kilbrittain had their last point deep in injury-time and so Kildorrery will remain in Intermediate grade next year.   This was a hard-earned victory and one which our boys can justifiably be proud. Well done to players and management!
