The news of the unexpected death of David Kelly, Ballinguiroe, on Wednesday morning last week was received in the Parish and further afield with a sense of shock and disbelief. Dave, as he was affectionately known, was a former player, selector and current Club member and his sudden passing in his sixty first year cast a shadow of gloom over the entire district. His four sons, Liam, Sean, Niall and David are all playing members of the Club, as well as his nephew, Finbarr Stapleton. Huge numbers paid their respects at his home on Friday evening where he was reposing and again at the Requiem Mass in St. Bartholomew’s Church  on Saturday and subsequent burial in the local cemetery. The chief celebrant of the Mass was family friend, Rev. Fr Sean Dunne S.M.A. and the concelebrants were Very Rev. Fr. Eamonn Kelleher P.P. and Very Rev. Fr Michael Corkery P.P. Glanworth. Music and hymns at the Mass were provided by the Parish Folk Group. His remains were afforded a guard of honour of Club members and players on the arrival in the village of the hearse, on Saturday morning and again, after the Mass, as the cortege proceeded to the cemetery. Following the passing of a vote of sympathy to his wife Mary, sons, sisters Mary Nelligan and Anne Stapleton, brothers-in-law, daughters-in-law and relatives, last Monday’s weekly meeting was adjourned as a mark of respect.  Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
