Kildorrery 3-12 BLACKROCK 2-14

Missing 5 of the starting team that had played Round 1 of the Intermediate hurling championship in early May, our Intermediate hurlers produced an excellent second half display to beat Blackrock by a point 3-12 2-14 last Sunday in Church Road.

Kildorrery played the first half against a strong wind and trailed at half time 2-9 1-4. William Fouhy had scored a well taken goal and the scoreline could have been worse but for an Ian Butler penalty save near half time also. Kildorrery lost Cathal Harrington to a head knock within the first 10 minutes but points from Finbarr Stapleton (2), PJ Keating and Shane O’Neill kept Kildorrery in touch at the break.

Kildorrery came storming out of the blocks in the second half with a well taken Jamie O’Gorman point followed by a Sean Kelly goal after good work by Jerry McCarthy. Kildorrery had momentum now and further points by Finbarr and Jamie brought Kildorrery level. The game was tit for tat from then on with a Jerry McCarthy goal and further points from Finbarr, Jamie and substitute David Kelly proving crucial. The backs held their end up restricting Blackrock to five points from frees only in the second half with William Coffey and Mikey Walsh holding the middle well.

Overall it was a good win for the team as they continue to prepare for Round 2 championship and remain unbeaten in the league in 2019.
