KILDORRERY G.A.A.

Last Friday night, our Intermediate footballers lost their Division 4 league game to neighbours, Mitchelstown, at the latter’s venue.  The final score line of 0-12 to 3-10 is hardly a true reflection of Kildorrery’s performance. In the first instance, they were without the services of a number of regulars,  Peter O’Brien, Wm Fouhy, Shane O’Neill, Finbarr Stapleton. To add to their woes, Sean Kelly and Fintan Daly were forced to retire injured mid-way through the first half.

From the throw-in, Kildorrery set up the first attacks and had two points to their credit before Mitchelstown had their first score, a point, in the sixth minute. Kildorrery went two up again but at the end of eight minutes of play the sides were level 0-3 apiece.  A Tom Monaghan point had Kildorrery ahead after ten minutes, but ‘Town came back with three unanswered points followed by a goal in the twenty first minute and with just five minutes of normal time remaining in the half, they led 1-8 to four points. Kildorrery had a point from a free in the last minute of the half.  At the break the winners led 1-8 to 0-5.

Despite a Mitchelstown goal inside the first minute of the second half, Kildorrery came back into this game and had three points before the end of the third quarter at which point ‘Town led 2-9 to 0-8. Kildorrery went on to add four points and had reduced their deficit to three points with five minutes of normal time left.  However, the winners got their third goal, against the run of play and finished off with a point with virtually the last kick of the game and so collected the league points. Apart from the score-line, Kildorrery showed an appetite for the game and this was probably their best performance to date.

To date, we have three games played in this Division 4 league, drawing one and losing two, which means we have just one point.
