KILDORRERY 1-17 CLYDA ROVERS 1-14

Our Under 21B hurlers survived a tough physical encounter with Clyda Rovers, when the sides met in the quarter final of the North Cork championship, at Buttevant, on Thursday evening last week. The final score-line was Kildorrery 1-17  Clyda Rovers 1-14.

The opening ten minutes or so, were evenly contested, but by the end of the first quarter, Clyda had moved six points to four ahead.  Suddenly, Kildorrery sprang to life, forcing their opponents into the concession of frees which Cathal Harrington converted in the second quarter to lead at the break by the minimum 0-10 to 0-9.

After the restart, Clyda had levelled matters with a pointed free within a minute, but a Kevin Noonan point restored Kildorrery’s advantage. Two more Clyda points had them 0-12 to 0-11 ahead by the thirty-fifth minute. Then followed a score-less period before substitute Richard Hurley, got Kildorrery’s goal just on the three-quarter hour mark and they were two up again.  During this third quarter, Cathal Walsh-O’Grady in goal made a game-turning save from close range and they went two more points ahead before Rovers had their next point in the fiftieth minute. Three great points on the trot by Dylan Kent, punctuated by a Clyda point from a free, saw Kildorrery 1-16 to 1-14 in front with just three minutes of normal time left. James Keating completed the scoring with a point in injury time and so Kildorrery are through to the semi-final.  Once Kildorrery took the bit between their teeth they gave of their best in all quarters, with some outstanding individual performances.

Team and scorers:  Cathal Walsh-O’Grady, Tony Watson, Ian Butler, Mattie Walsh-O’Grady, Niall Higgins, Dylan Kent 0-4, John Hunter, Paddy Hartnett, P. J. Keating 0-1, Kevin Noonan 0-1, James Keating 0-2(0-1f), Kieran Hurley 0-2, Timmy O’Sullivan, Cathal Harrington 0-6(0-5fs), Sean Cunningham 0-1.  Sub. Richie Hurley 1-0, for T.O’Sullivan.
