KILDORRERY 1-22 DRIPSEY 2-14
Our Intermediate hurlers, despite striking a succession of wides in the second half finished four points ahead of Dripsey, when the sides met in the opening round of the championship, at Mallow, last Sunday afternoon. The final score-line read Kildorrery 1-22 Dripsey 2-14.
From the throw-in, Kildorrery took the game to their opponents and at the end of eight minutes had three points to their credit before Dripsey opened their scoring with a point and by the end of the quarter were 0-6 to 0-2 ahead and in the next minute went further ahead when Eamonn O’Connor finished off a great piece of combined play with a well-taken goal. This, far from killing off the Dripsey effort saw them come right back into the game and while Kildorrery did add two further points to their tally only four points separated the sides, at the break
After the resumption, early Kildorrery points were quickly negatived by 1-1 for Dripsey. Again, Kildorrery rallied and by the end of the third quarter, were 1-15 to 1-9 ahead and Dripsey were by no means giving up. With ten minutes of normal time remaining, Dripsey having got through for their second goal, trailed 2-10 to 1-16. While they did send over four more points before the end Kildorrery, to their credit, added six to their tally to run out deserving winners.
