Last Friday night, with home advantage, our intermediate footballers failed by the narrowest of margins to neighbours, Mitchelstown in the Division 4  league. The final score-line read Kildorrery 1-6 Mitchelstown 0-10.

From the throw-in, Kildorrery facing the strong wind set up the first attack, which yielded a free, well converted by Shane O’Neill inside the first minute. Mitchelstown replied immediately and had gone three to one ahead before James O’Sullivan sent over a point in the tenth minute. This, however, was Kildorrery’s last score in normal time, while the winners had increased their tally to eight points. Two minutes into injury time, a Kildorrery attack ended in Jamie O’Gorman capitalising on a Mitchelstown defensive error for Kildorrery’s goal.  At the break , Kildorrery trailed 1-2 to 0-8.

After the restart, the opening seven minutes failed to produce a score, with both sides guilty of poor finishing.  Mitchelstown stretched their advantage to which Kildorrery replied per James McEniry. Sean O’Sullivan who had replaced the injured Stevie Coughlan had another point before ‘Town had their last score of the game in the fortieth minute.  Again poor shooting cost both sides before Richie McEniry pointed a free six minutes from time. Kildorrery tried hard to salvage the league points in the dying minutes but they could only manage a point from a James O’Sullivan free. Their next scheduled game will be the Championship opening round versus Glanmire at Fermoy on Sunday 15th April.
