The Intermediate hurlers and footballers have had a busy few weeks in both codes.

On Fri 31st May our hurlers had a good win 1-24 to 4-13 over Kilworth in Castletownroche on a fine evening for hurling. We were down 1-8 to 2-8 at half time in what was a lacklustre 1st half – Peter with the goal from a long-range free that dropped in.

The game sparked into life in the 2nd half with the introduction of James K in the half-forward line. James Mc got a point from play followed by a free from Peter, and another from James Mc to level. We were rocked by another goal by Kilworth, followed by a point from play for them. Luke got our next from play to make it 1-12 to 3-9 and exchanges were much more competitive.

A brace from James K from play and one for Peter from play had us level again. They got one from play, followed by a Peter free. Then a 65 by Peter, after a good save by their keeper from a James K goal shot, had us in front.

A point from Shane (to go with the one he scored in 1st half) followed by 2 frees by them, had us all square again. Peter added another from play, followed by a goal for them. Luke got another sweet score from play- after a lovely pass from James. They then got their last score from play to make it 1-20 to 4-13.

Two frees from Peter and two from James Mc saw us run out deserving winners by 2pts.

While a match report is primarily about recording the scores and scorers, this was a team performance with everyone from Ian in goal to Dave at corner forward and subs doing their bit.

The evergreen Mikey and Darren showed well in defense. Then the perennial scoregetter Peter, who ended with 1-13(between frees and from play), in midfield was ably assisted by James Sull. The forwards worked hard with those not on the score sheet on this occasion, getting fouled for frees.

Team; Ian Butler, Darren McNamara, Cormac O’Baoill, Ritchie Hurley, Shane Fitzgerald (0-2), Mikey Walsh, Will Fouhy, Peter O’Brien (1-13), James O’Sullivan, Pierse Piggott, James McEniry (0-4), Sean Watson, Cathal Harrington, Luke Keating (0-3) and Dave Kelly.

Subs used James Keating (0-2) for Sean Watson(ht), and Dave Hunter for Ritchie Hurley (mid-2nd half).

On Sunday 9th June the footballers travelled to Mayfield and it proved a very good day for them with lots of good interplay, passing and scoring. The first half started nicely with Shane scoring a lovely point. We had a goal attempt by Pierce which resulted in a 45 which Tony put over the bar. After great work by James O Sullivan and a nice pass, Darren finished off the score. Padraig put one past the goalie after a nice pass from Pierce and Luke followed with 2 points after great work by James K and Padraig. There were several wides from both sides and in this half, Mayfield got a yellow card also. The half-time score was 1-7 to 0-4 in Kildorrery’s favour.

In the second half, there was some lovely interplay and the lads seemed settled into their jobs with several players getting on the scoresheet including Padraig and Cathal Harrington, Sean Cunningham and Tony kicking another two 45’s. The defenders were working very hard with great turnovers by David Hunter, Timmy O Sullivan and James K who did well after a short kick out did not go to plan. We had 2 further goals, one by Luke after a nice pass from Padraig and Mathew who finished off his nicely after great work by Pierce who set up many scores. Eoin, Mathew, and Padraig O Flynn all came on with Padraig fisting a nice point over the bar and it was nice to see Anthony back on the pitch after time out with injury and scoring a lovely point. Mayfield found a lot of their scores through frees, scored a nice goal after some loose passing by Kildorrery and ended up with a red card towards the end of the match. The final score was Kildorrery 3-17 to Mayfield 1-8

Team: Tony Watson (0-2), Gerry McCarthy, David Hunter, Timmy O’Sullivan (0-1), Sean Cunningham (0-1), James Keating (0-1), Conor Kent, Pierce Piggott, James O Sullivan, Sean Watson (0-1), Shane Fitzgerald (0-1), Darren McNamara (0-1), Padraig Harrington (0-3), Luke Keating (1-2), Cathal Harrington (0-2).

Subs used: Eoin Hartnett, Mathew Fitzgibbon (1-0), Padraig O Flynn (0-1), Liam McMillan, Anthony Crowley (0-1)

On Sunday 16th June, the hurlers travelled to play Bandon. This was a lively encounter with Bandon quicker off the mark getting some particularly good scores from play. It took a while for Kildorrery to settle and Mikey W playing in midfield got the first point for ourselves. There were several wides with James Mc getting one over. James K followed this with two points and after good work by Luke, Peter put over the free. Following a loose pass which Bandon intercepted we were lucky to avoid the goal. Due to injury, Mikey was replaced by Pierce who worked hard around the middle of the field. Luke got our last score of the half with the score at halftime Bandon 0-11, Kildorrery 0-7.

The second half started more promising. Padraig H who replaced Sean W (injured) at half time was out his front of his man and scored a point. After hard work in the forward line, Peter converted the resultant free and James K scored a long-range shot to bring us within a point of Bandon. It was close for the rest of the half with both sides having some nice shots with Cathal, James Mc and James K getting on the scoresheet. After a long period on the sideline after injury, it was good to see Dylan back in action. It finished on a draw, and they will have to do it all again as they meet in the championship later in the year.

Team; Ian Butler, Darren McNamara, Cormac O’Baoill, Conor Kent, Shane Fitzgerald, James Keating (0-6), James O Sullivan, Mikey Walsh (0-1), Will Fouhy, Ritchie Hurley, James McEniry (0-3), Cathal Harrington (0-1), Peter O’Brien (0-3), Sean Watson, Luke Keating (0-3).

Subs used Pierce Piggott for Mikey Walsh, Padraig Harrington (0-1) for Sean Watson, Dave Kelly for Ritchie Hurley and Dylan Kent for Cathal Harrington.
