Ireland Lights up
The Club are looking for some volunteers to help get this event going, nothing much to it. It will be fun, meeting of friends, club members and will suit all ages. The ever popular ‘Ireland Lights Up’ returns to GAA clubs in January 2024 in partnership with RTE’s Operation Transformation and Get Ireland Walking. Ireland Lights Up encourages GAA clubs across the 32 counties to light up and bring communities together to walk and talk in a safe environment during the dark winter evenings. As ever, a club participating in Ireland Lights Up will be showcased each week on RTE’s Operation Transformation. By registering for Ireland Lights Up you are automatically registered for the Steps Challenge, and you will receive an invite to the My Life app from Irish Life. (Although you don't have to participate in the latter - that is at your discretion). Ireland Lights Up will run from January 10, 2024. Participating clubs are asked to host a community walk for up to 6 weeks, for the duration of the Operation Transformation show. Clubs can determine their own schedule depending on volunteer capacity. Each week one participating club will be selected to receive a visit from the RTE cameras with the footage broadcast on the subsequent episode of Operation Transformation. Someone in the community, may have an inspirational story about how Ireland Lights Up or walking in general has helped transform their health. To put an accurate figure on the number of walkers that participate in Ireland Lights Up in 2024, clubs are asked to report their participant numbers weekly. Clubs will be considered as host club for the launch of Ireland Lights Up 2024 (which involves a visit from RTE’s Operation Transformation cameras to capture footage for the 2025 show). *If you are interested and would like to help get this up & running for the Club, please contact - Will Fouhy 086 3663113, Shane O'Grady 089 4442171 or Maria Noonan 087 6657153. This is a great opportunity for club members to get together in the New Year. Gather your friends, grab a high viz and have fun. We might be on TV!!!
