Junior football honours for the club
There was a very positive vibe and atmosphere at our meeting on Monday night and why wouldn’t there be when the three cups we had won is as many weeks were there for all to see. The successful mentors from the teams from the under seventeens and the junior footballers also spoke of their own successes over the last few weeks.
Banteer proved to be a lucky haunting ground again for us this week with our Junior B footballers securing the north cork football title versus Liscarroll Churchtown gaels. 2018 was the last time we had won this title and it was a victory savoured by the large crowd of travelling supports and their families who made the journey. This was end to end for a great degree of the first half and when banter put the ball in the back of the net and this was the only goal of the half banter led a goal and four to six points at half time. This was a fiercely competitive match and was great value for money in terms of the effort and energy the boys were putting into the match.
The second half started with a flourish and tom Monaghan and Jack McNamara both goaled to leave us leading by two goals and six to one goal and four. We were never to lose the lead after this and three points from Eamonn o Conor put us in a great position. Eoin Hartnett who came on as a sub as did Anthony Crowley and both registered scores on the board. We continued to lead and when our opponent goaled there were three points between us. Into injury time but we held out for a brilliant win and one to be savoured. Cathal O Sullivan in accepting the trophy and his man of the match award also poignantly dedicated the win to their friend and panel member Paddy Hartnett who died so tragically earlier this year. It was a fitting tribute and was so eloquently articulated by Cathal. The team will now go on to a county section in this against iniscarra with the date to be confirmed. Well done to James,Pa Mikey and stevie who helped out also and to the ever present Caroline who minded the boys also when they got injured. Well done to all the team and substitutes who all played a key role.
Scorers on the day were. Tom monaghan 1-3 (0-1f), Liam mcmillan 1-0, jack McNamara 1-0, eamon o connor 0-3, Sean cunningham 0-2 (0-1f), mattie walsh o grady 0-2, eoin hartnett 0-1, Anthony Crowley 0-1 '45'.
