Footballers draw but fail to progress
This weekend served up our round three intermediate football match versus Boherbue in Buttevant last Saturday.
Boherbue proceed to the next round as group runners up. Mitchelstown top the group. We just missed out despite the fact that we had the best defensive record in our grade.
The game was hard fought with Kildorrery dictating the flow as boherbue came to grips with our defensive system. Where we defend and force a turnover and then counter. Boherbue had no plan to counteract this defensive play and resorted to lateral passing and very slow build up.
The Boherbue goal which came after twenty five minutes was a stroke of luck, a high ball into the square which we couldn’t deal with. This enabled boherbue take the lead and they took that lead into the second half where the score at half time was a goal and two to three points. Our goal came in the second half when we were awarded a penalty.
Both teams ebbed and flowed and with fifty five minutes gone Boherbue were up by two points. We brought it back to level and indeed had an opportunity to take the win but unfortunately we didn’t make it.
For us the journey now ends. The team and mentors and coaching team have been absolutely fantastic all year round and have given us great excitement and lots to look forward to for the future.
Hard luck guys and thank you for all your efforts. (See Paddy Ryan report also)
