Intermediate Hurlers Earn a Draw
Our intermediate hurlers took to the field recently in Glanworth for their first intermediate encounter of the year against a strong Sarsfield side. This was always going to be a close encounter and at half time Sars led on a scoreline of six points to five.
Our starting team consisted of Ian Butler,Darren Macnamara,Cormac O Baoill,Conor Kent, Shane Fitzgerald,James Keating,Will Fouhy,Michael Walsh,James O Sullivan,Pierce Piggott,Peter O Brien,Kieran Hurley,John O Connor,David Kelly and Luke Keating.
At forty five minutes we led on a scoreline of nine ten points to nine. The full time score reflected a draw of a goal and thirteen apiece.
We took an opening lead after five minutes with three frees per peter o Brien. After 15 minutes Sars had brought it back level. Darren Mcnamara then suffered an injury and PJ keating was brought in to the fold.Sars then led five points to four and after trading one each again half time came.
After the restart pierce and luke both added ponts for us to take a slim lead. Pierce added another on forty one minutes for us to lead nine points to eight. Kieran hurley then had a great passage of play which led to a peter point.
Having traded points we brought on Tiernan and Dylan in the meantime. Cathal Harrington also.
Shane O’Regan’s goal gave Sars a boost but Pierce Pigott replied for us and we were level into Injury time and it finished 1-13 each. As an opening gambit to our hurling championship this was a good robust encounter and our fitness was there to be seen.
