Kildorrery continue winning form against Mayfield

Our hurlers took to the field on Saturday evening to play the second round of the round robin format versus Mayfield. This was preceded by a minutes silence to mark the sad passing of Dillion Quirke from Tipperary. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam.

Mayfield came to the match in a very robust format and within the first 8 minutes were up by 4 points. The ever present Nicky Kelly being very much to the fore until Luke Keating registered Kildorrerys first point. Kelly added another to make it five points to one before James o Sullivan and James keating added two more to stay within sight. Kelly added another point before Dan Lucey goaled for Mayfield. On the 15th Minute mark Dave Kelly added a point to make it a goal and six to four points with 15 minutes gone. A great degree of the passages of play were breaking down in midfield which aided the Mayfield cause. We weren’t utilisng our inside forward line to the extent we should have.

Mayfield added another point before saving an exciting Goal chance from James Mceniry which brought out a great save from their keeper. At this point we had three wides in a row where we could have brought us closer but we seemed to lack that clinicial element in this particular period.. Kelly pointed again. Kildorrery introduced Mikey walsh back from injury for John O Connor. Mikey stepping in to the midfield berth originally helped settle the piece with the middle third and soon after Peter registered a point from a free which was returned by Mayfield instantly. Kildorrery then registered three points before half time per John Hunter, Dave Kelly and James mceniry and at half time the score line was a heathier goal and nine to Mayfield to our nine points. While some of the daylight had been bridged there was till work to do in the second half.

Kildorrery open the half well with a point from Dylan Kent. Mayfield responded with two points with Kelly responsible for one of those again. Peter pointed to bring the gap to three. Sean Kelly came on for James o Sullivan

Dave Kelly again pointed to bring the gap back to 2. Mceniry brought it to one with a superbly taken point. Cathal harrington came on for Dave Kelly. With forty three minutes gone we were a point down with the score at one eleven to thirteen points.

The last seventeen minutes of the match were to prove fruitful as we hit a consistent scoring patch. James Keating pointed to level. And when Dylan added a further point we led which instilled a great belief within the team. This preceded some great passages of play and some great build up play by Peter and Mikey enabling Luke Keating to finish to the net.

A further Point from James followed by another from Cathal harrinton and we led with fifty two minutes gone by one seventeen to one eleven.

Kieran Hurley came on for john hunter. A goal from Cathal and a response from Kelly of Mayfield finished off with a point from Dylan and the match finished in our favour on the score line of two goals and eighteen to two goals and eleven. This was a great last quarter performance from the guys where we utilised our forwards more effectively. Next up will be Sarsfields in a couple of weeks’ time.
