Kildorrery Produce Remarkable Comeback to Win Championship Opener

Kildorrery made an impressive start to their Under-16 C camogie championship campaign with a hard-earned one-point victory over Aghada under lights on Thursday evening.
The Kildorrery girls faced an early setback before the game even began, with traffic delays on the journey to Aghada causing them to arrive later than planned. Despite the disruption, the team settled quickly into their preparations, completing their warm-up before what proved to be a highly competitive encounter.
Aghada made the brighter start, settling quickly and registering the opening two scores. Kildorrery took some time to find their rhythm, and the home side gradually established control during the opening half.
Aghada's ability to take their chances saw them build a five-point advantage by half-time, leaving Kildorrery with plenty of work to do after the interval.
The second half initially followed a similar pattern, with Aghada extending their lead. Ten minutes into the half, Kildorrery found themselves nine points adrift and facing a significant challenge.
But this Kildorrery team simply would not lie down.
The girls dug deep, battled for every ball and began to claw their way back into the game. A couple of crucial goals gave the team the lift they needed and suddenly the momentum had shifted.
What followed was a fantastic championship battle. The work rate and teamwork from the Kildorrery girls were exceptional, with every player contributing and nobody willing to give an inch. The game became tit-for-tat as the clock ran down, with both sides trading scores.
Then came more than five minutes of injury time.
Kildorrery were hanging on by a thread, protecting the narrowest of leads. Every clearance, every challenge and every possession mattered. The tension was incredible right up to the final whistle.
When it finally came, Kildorrery had held on to secure a memorable 3-10 to 2-12 victory.
Huge credit goes to every one of our Under-16 girls. Their dedication, hard work, teamwork and positive attitude were evident throughout, but particularly when the game looked to be slipping away from them.
The contribution of the entire panel was important on the night, with Kildorrery also grateful to the Under-14 girls who travelled and were called upon to provide valuable support.
Coming from nine points behind in the second half to win by a single point demonstrated the resilience and character within this Kildorrery group. It was an excellent opening championship victory and provides the team with a strong platform for the games ahead.
