IHL Kildorrery vs Bishopstown
Kildorrery welcomed Bishopstown to the hill on a sun‑splashed afternoon for the second round of the Intermediate Hurling League. A fine crowd gathered around the complex, where activity had been buzzing since early morning—a sure sign of a club that is thriving and growing. Under the careful stewardship of Ned Dwane, our match hatch was in full flow throughout the day, adding to the sense of community and excitement.
Among the spectators was Club President Tom Monaghan, whose long-standing links with Bishopstown added an extra layer of interest to the tie.
First Half
Bishopstown set the tone with the opening point inside the first minute, but Kildorrery responded in kind almost immediately. The visitors edged ahead again in the 4th minute, only for Dylan to swing over a sharp reply.
A Peter free nudged Kildorrery ahead, but Bishopstown followed with the next two points as both teams began to find their rhythm—albeit mixed with some wayward shooting on both sides.
The moment of the half came when Dylan’s long-range free from our own 40-metre line dropped awkwardly in front of the Bishopstown keeper. With the sun in his eyes, he misjudged the bounce, and the sliotar sneaked its way to the net to the delight of the home crowd.
Bishopstown steadied themselves with two quick points, but a superb sideline cut from Fitzy set up Dylan for another quality score. From there the game ignited, with Luke and Dylan trading points with their opponents in a high-tempo spell.
Just before the interval, James McEniry struck a fine point to close our first-half tally.
Kildorrery went in leading 1–12 to 0–10—a deserved advantage built on accuracy and intensity.
Second Half
Bishopstown came out sharper, converting two frees to narrow the gap, but a brilliant surge from Sean Cunningham—who was outstanding throughout the second half—set up Kieran Hurley for a well-worked point.
Both sides traded scores up to the 46th minute, with Bishopstown no doubt regretting several missed chances during the third quarter.
The introduction and energy of younger players was notable, with Tadhg and Corey particularly catching the eye. Corey marked his growing presence on the panel with a beautifully taken point in the 47th minute that drew a loud cheer from the home supporters.
Controversy struck moments later when the eagle‑eyed umpire waved wide what Bishopstown were adamant was a goal. Referee Denis Motherway, trusting his experienced umpire, dismissed the appeals—a pivotal moment in a game balanced on a knife-edge.
Bishopstown, to their credit, rallied strongly in the closing stages, firing over four points in the final six minutes. Kildorrery added a free of their own, but it was a late Bishopstown free that ultimately secured the draw.
Full-Time Score
Kildorrery: 1–18
Bishopstown: 0–21
Final Thoughts
The match showcased the improving standards of both sides. For Kildorrery, the blend of youthful energy and seasoned experience is beginning to gel nicely, offering real promise for the season ahead. With only two games played, there is still plenty of hurling to come—but the signs are bright.
The large crowd left well entertained, and as the sun continued to shine on the complex, the sense of pride and progress in the club was unmistakable.
Well done lads—another strong step forward.
