Paddy Hartnett Memorial Puc Fada

We held our annual Paddy Hartnett Memorial Puc Fada on Saturday, and the village turned out in great spirits for a fantastic day. The sun shone brightly—more than once we said Paddy must have sent it—and it made for a perfect backdrop as players of all ages came together to take part.

A huge thank you to Helena, Ned, Tom ,Barry  and Amber for all their work in organising and running the event, and to everyone who took part and supported the day. It was a lovely community occasion and a fitting tribute to Paddy’s memory and we know that the Hartnett family enjoyed it too.

Intermediate League Round 2

Kildorrery secure back-to-back league wins in a thrilling encounter

A cold but dry evening provided the backdrop as Kildorrery welcomed Glanworth to their home venue in what proved to be a gripping Intermediate League Round 2 clash. Coming into the game on the back of their first league victory, Kildorrery were hungry to build momentum — and for large spells of the contest, they delivered in stunning fashion.

First Half — Kildorrery Fly Out of the Blocks

Glanworth drew first blood with an early wide converted to a point, but it proved only a brief moment of optimism for the visitors. Within three minutes, Kildorrery struck for a goal of the highest quality, Timmy O’Sullivan finishing clinically to rock Glanworth on their heels. What followed was a burst of scoring that had the large home crowd on their feet — Peter O’Brien, Dave Kelly, and a brace from the impressive Will Fouhy all raised white flags in a devastating ten-minute spell that put Kildorrery firmly in the driving seat.

Glanworth regrouped and responded with two pointed frees to steady themselves, but Kildorrery were not to be denied. In just his second start at Intermediate level, the exciting Tadgh Murphy announced himself emphatically, first pointing to settle any nerves, before being on the end of a well-worked team move to crash the ball to the net for Kildorrery’s second goal. Dylan Kent chipped in with a point of his own to compound Glanworth’s misery, and the lead looked commanding heading into the interval.

Glanworth managed to claim the final score of the half, but at the short whistle the scoreboard read Kildorrery 2-05, Glanworth 0-05. The large crowd were in fine voice, thoroughly delighted with what had been a dominant and entertaining first-half display.

Second Half — Glanworth Hit Back as Tension Mounts

Shane Fitzgerald was introduced at half-time and made an immediate impact as Kildorrery sought to push on. However, Glanworth had clearly regrouped in the dressing room and emerged with renewed intent. A two-pointer from the visitors straight after the restart suddenly tightened the gap to 2-05 to 0-07, and the game began to shift.

The sides traded scores — Dylan Kent firing over a two-pointer for Kildorrery, Will Fouhy adding a point — but Glanworth kept chipping away. By the 45th minute the gap had closed significantly, with the scoreboard reading Kildorrery 2-09, Glanworth 0-11. Will Fouhy steadied Kildorrery again to make it 2-10, but there was now a nervy edge to proceedings.

In a tense closing quarter, two Glanworth two-pointers rocked Kildorrery, and the visitors continued to press. Score by score they reeled the lead in — a point here, another there — and with time running out, the sides were level. It was agonising for the home supporters.

But Kildorrery dug deep. A free was won up the field and, crucially, referee brought it forward. Up stepped Anthony Crowley, who had come on in goals, and with nerves of steel, he split the posts to edge his side back in front. There was no way back for Glanworth, and the final whistle confirmed a famous one-point victory.

Final Score: Kildorrery 2-11 Glanworth 0-16

A Gritty Win — But Lessons to Learn

Manager and players alike will know there is plenty to work on after surrendering such a commanding lead, but the character shown to hold on — and win in the manner they did — will stand to this group. Back-to-back Intermediate League wins is a statement of intent.
