GAA President Visit
The President of the GAA Jarlath Burns visited us to open our new 3g 4g pitch on Sunday October 5th .
This was a very exciting for the whole parish and preparations had been under way for the last few weeks.
He met kids from Kildorrery National School and Glenahulla National School under the guise of our u6 and u8 teams and both teams put on an array of entertainment showing off their Gaelic football skills. He later presented them with their medals to their delight.
He was welcomed by our Club President Tom Monaghan,Club Chair Joe Sherlock, Secretary Davis Harrington and Astro committee chair Tony McCarthy. He entered the yard to lovely Irish music from local musicians Eamonn McCarthy, Kathleen Dwane, Linda walsh and Irene de Brun.
Chairman Joe Sherlock addressed the crowd and welcomed speakers from cork county board, the camogie association and our own Tony MCCarthy who led the Astro project and team. Our own president Tom Monaghan then spoke and Tom introduced the GAA President who then addressed the crowd and spoke about the importance of Gaelic activities in our community, regular coaching, be ambitious and enjoy playing Gaelic games. A special Thanks to musicians, dancers, committee members, those who hosted, parents, players, our caterers, and GAA President for making this visit a truly memorable occasion. It can only lift the spirits for our club and many positives were taken from this visit. We now have a world class facility.
As we celebrate the opening of our Astro Pitch, the club wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the members of all our committees, past and present, whose dedication and tireless work over the years have brought us to this proud day. We never doubted the spirit of the Kildorrery community – a spirit that shines through in every project, every fundraiser, and every team effort. This facility stands as a symbol of the pride and ambition, but most importantly, it is about our youth. It is about providing them with the best opportunities to develop their skills, their friendships, and their love of our games. Through hurling, football, camogie, ladies’ football and rounders, we are shaping not just players but confident young people who carry the values of the GAA into every aspect of life.We are proud of what we have achieved, but even more proud of what lies ahead. Together, as one community and one club, the future of Kildorrery GAA is bright.
Pitch update
Important that people have the correct footwear, moulded studs, Astro footwear or runners. We would ask all coaches to make sure this is the case.
Secondly the booking of the Astro will be reviewed weekly until we get the proper flow of training, capacity etc.
These bookings will be supervised. This is an exciting time for all of us and I know we will treat the Astro with the respect it deserves.
