Hurlers get a draw in opening Match

On Sunday we played Aghada and dug out eventually an incredible 1-22 to 2-19 draw in Caherlag. Will Leahy scored an impressive 0-14 for the Aghada side while Peter O’Brien scored 0-6 for us with Kieran Hurley and James Keating scoring our all-important goals. Notably Aghada had 11 wides in the first half and 10 in the second half so in that context we can count ourselves lucky to get the draw having relinquished a lead of six points at one stage.

Both sides opened proceedings by trading wides until shane fitz who had been inspirational while he remained on the pitch and Timmy O Sullivan got us off the mark. Peter weighed in with another point and we were on our way. Aghada and ourselves traded points again and per dave Kelly and fitz again we were starting to assert ourselves. Aghada converted one of their seven converted frees on the day and when Kieran hurley latched on to an excellent through ball and goaled we led at the time by a goal and five to three points.

We were to maintain this lead ebbing and flowing throughout the afternoon with dave hunter Peter,John Hunter and James McEniry getting on the score sheet. At half time we led a goal and eleven to nine points.

The second half opened with a brace of wides from either side and we got off the mark again per peter and shane fitz . By the 45th minute Aghada had reduced the deficit to two and when they pointed a minute later the deficit was reduced to one. In the 48th minute James keating made an assertive run on the 45 yard line and goaled for what we thought would be a turning point in the second half as our lead was now four but that was not to be. Aghada edged away at the lead picking of points and when they put two tallies of three points together broken by two intermittent Kildorrery points the game was in the melting pot for both. We always managed to assume the lead but aghada were able to claw themselves back to us and when they goaled it was all level. We traded points again and that was how it was going to play out until the referee blew to signal a draw. We could probably count ourselves lucky to come away with a draw of 2-19 to 1-22 and we will regroup now for our next encounter against Ballygiblin who went down to Erins own on a score line of 2-18 to 2-22.

Pitch progress

The progress on the pitch has been flying over the last two weeks. We are hoping that all works will be concluded shortly. Thanks to the Astro and finance committees who are guiding the projects along. We should see the conclusion of it now very shortly. It is envisaged that the President of the GAA Jarlath Burns will visit the club to officially open the pitch in October.

New 200 club coming Soon!!!

To Support the financing of the pitch we will be launching our new 200 club in August whereby 200 families or individuals will be asked to donate five euro per week to the club to defray the costs of the project while also being able to enter a draw. This is going to be a tremendous development for the club and community, and we are looking forward to having the finished product shortly.
