Farewell Pat

In a weekend where we had mixed emotions for the club from the highs of brilliant film awards on Saturday to be met with great sadness on Sunday when we learned of the sad passing of club legend Pat Fenton we truly learned about the ups and downs of life. We had recently celebrated a birthday milestone with Pat and this was a lovely night n the club. More recently at the conclusion of his presidency the club presented Pat with a commemorative piece to mark his tenure as president.

Pat was an absolute legend within the club and has had such a huge influence, playing, coaching while also carrying out officer roles within the club over many years.

As a show of respect all adult games scheduled for Kildorrery are suspended this week, all juvenile teams training marked a moment of silence, and the flag flew at half-mast to mark his passing.

On Monday the club gathered for a brief club meeting to mark the passing of Pat and there were many tributes paid to him.

It was agreed that there was Great sadness around the club and community at the passing of Pat and that Memories of him will be cherished for years to come.

Barry O’Connor noted that his first visits to Thurles and Croke Park was with Pat. His exploits with the club were unreal. He was a regular with Avondhu also in the 70s. Showed great character in 2012.Eddie, barrys brother noted that Pat gave a lot to the club as a whole. He was an out and out hurling man all his life. He was a great operator in the full back line. A savage cork hurling fan.

Ned noted his first memory of Pat was the distinctive early cooper helmet and a knee bandage. Always reminded us he was the chairman for KDY during our senior time.

It was commented that The pictures around the wall tell the story of Pat.Peter said he never took a backwards step in 2012 when we won the county championship and Pat was a selector on the team. Everyone heard he was a great advocate for the club with the county board. Pats playing career was exemplary and he had won many titles with the club. There were many contributions from the floor and everyone agreed it couldn’t do Pat justice such was his contribution to the club.

On Monday last the juvenile teams who trained held a minute’s silence.

Pat you will be hugely missed by everybody. To Mag Pat, Ann and Mairead and to all of Pats Grandchildren. We extend our heartfelt sympathy.

At the time of writing plans were in train for a guard of honour for the funeral which was set for today.

Pat,rest in peace. Your likes will not be seen again.
