Junior Ladies County Final Replay
The disappointment of success.
Our junior ladies were marginally defeated by two points in last Saturday’s county final replay. A difficult pill to swallow having had such a successful year & finishing top of the championship table. The week had also brought its own stresses with the fixture being unconfirmed until Thursday lunchtime.
On the previous Sunday’s County final, our ladies were again out of luck, they were ahead by 4 points, with 13 minutes to go & the games was abandoned due to a delay in an ambulance coming to treat an injured Naomh Fionbarra player.
The junior ladies faced into this re-fixture without a number of their key players & again gave a super performance going ahead by 6 points at half time. Luck was not on our side for the second half. With an experienced Naomh Fionbarra side & a strong wing crossing the pitch we failed to contribute to our scores & keep our opponents at bay.
We have an abundance of talent on this panel, we have two thirds of our panel under the minor age for our championship this year. We are so proud of everything these ladies & their management have achieved this year and we look forward to a great year in 2025.
After the first game was abandoned owing to an injury to one of their players our team re grouped and got themselves ready for the re-fixture. This was incredibly difficult for our young team but they regrouped and got stuck in and we are immensely proud of the team, despite the disappointing result. Ladies’ chairperson Tracey McNamara said However, success isn’t always defined by the scoreboard. It’s about how far we’ve come as a club and the values we hold dear within the GAA community. One of the highlights for her was seeing the incredible talent coming through — a third of our starting Junior team are Under 16 players! That’s a true testament to the fantastic work done by our coaches, mentors, and players. We’ve made tremendous strides in developing young talent, and she went on to express my deepest gratitude to all involved. The GAA values of inclusivity, teamwork, and pride in our club are key measures of success, and I was delighted to see the unbelievable support we received from the club and community, both this weekend and last. The sheer number of people who travelled to support the girls was truly heartwarming and speaks to the strength of the One Club model. This connectedness fosters a sense of pride in our crest and among our players, which is invaluable. It’s crucial that we continue to encourage and support girls and women in sport, ensuring they feel connected and valued members of our club. The girls may feel disappointed with the scoreboard, but they know how much they’re valued as members of this community and the club’’. Well done to all involved
