Mixed fortunes for our men’s footballing teams this week

Intermediates lose out to Dromtarriffe

Our intermediate footballers travelled to Churchtown on Saturday for their third match of this round robin format. Our opponents Dromtarriffe needed a win to avoid relegation and if the result had gone our way and results were favourable elsewhere, we had a slim chance of going through to the quarter finals. That wasn’t to be however as our lads were still recovering from a gruelling encounter the week before with Blackrock in the hurling. To be fair the boys started well and a Point for James Keating and another for Luke Keating demonstrated signs of positivity. Dromtariffes first score came through Daniel O Keeffe and with fifteen minutes gone we led two points to one. Soon after Brian o Keefe levelled for Dromtarriffe and when their forward Daniel o Keefe pointed, they took the lead. Shane Fitzgerald responded with an excellently taken score, but Dromtariffe responded in just a quick time to take the lead before Darren McNamara scored to level it once more.

Dromtariffe tagged on two more points and with twenty-eight minutes gone led by six points to four and this is how it played out until half time.

On the resumption Dromtariffe had a Quick point followed by goal and this spell was probably the turning point of which there was no return for us and with the introduction of Dylan Kent for Sean Watson just before the forty-five-minute mark the hope was that it might inspire Kildorrery once more. However, with the score line of a goal and eleven to five points on the forty-five-minute mark the signs were very ominous for our lads. They battled on and their most lucrative spell happened when they tagged on three points in a row however the deficit was not to be bridged and Dromtarriffe ran out winners on a four-point margin.

This is another year for the group where the rub of the green just wasn’t there. To credit the team, they have given a lot again this year in terms of commitment and that we would still maintain our position in Intermediate in both codes is a credit to them albeit its challenging for teams to sustain the effort.

We will drive on again in twenty twenty-five but suffice to say we are extremely proud of the effort and the team members who worked so hard throughout the year.

Junior Footballers beat Mitchelstown in close encounter to reach final

Shanballymore was the venue for this Junior B encounter on a bright Sunday evening on an excellently prepared Shanballymore field. With the disappointment still in minds after the previous days encounter a win here would give the club and community a lift. Kildorrery opened well with two points before Mitchelstown responded before jack Mcnamara made it a three-point lead and our lads were settled into the game. A further exchange of points and Kildorrery led Five points to two. We looked in command but were only to score one more point in that half and Mitchelstown tapped over four to leave the teams at six points apiece going in to the break.

On the resumption the teams were to be level on two more occasions where we were able to get points from Tom Monaghan and Paudi. At nine points apiece it was in the melting pot however we were able to regain the lead and get another with a responding point from town before Cian Coughlan finished the night with a point for Kildorrery to run out eventual winners. It was fitting that it came from the booth of Cian as he had played so well all evening.

The team now go on to play Buttevant in the final and after their comprehensive win over glanworth its going to be a match to savour. Well, done to all the team and the mentors and best wishes for the preparation in the weeks ahead.

Bingo Volunteers

Bingo volunteers. Over the course of the last few years the GAA club and the community work together to host bingo for locals and nearby neighbours every Friday night. This provides a very welcome outlet for people to meet other people in a social gathering. Both organisations use the funds to support each of their own costs throughout the year and these are greatly welcomed. If you are interested in volunteering a few times a year can you leave Marie Collin’s, or I know please? Volunteers are always welcomed and ensured that we can keep the bingo going. The rota is updated every few months and tries to accommodate people in terms of what is feasible for them. Thank you.
