Hurlers lose out to Blackrock

Our hurlers succumbed to Blackrock last Saturday on what was the third match of this series. This was an eagerly anticipated match with Kildorrery vowing to make up for the previous year having lost to BlackRock again at the same stage. After 10 minutes we were a goal and four points down to three points with a goal per Tadgh Deasy. There had been speculation as to whether he would start for the opposition. Luke Keating and Peter O Brien had our initial two points. Soon after we were to level it up at a goal and five a piece when a well worked manoeuvre by Pierce Piggott saw him able to convert to the back of the net. With further points traded and points from Kieran Shane and the impressive Dave Kelly we were at a goal and six apiece. By the 25th minute we had stretched our lead by three points and with goals traded just before half time from luke keating and blackrock the half time score read two goals and eleven a piece. A disallowed goal proved to be decisive at this point when the referee in error said that Mikey Walsh had fouled the sliothar. Moments like these can have a huge impact on a match and so how it was to come to pass. Half time saw dave Kelly substituted for an injury and he was to prove a huge loss as he had been taking the game to BlackRock all day. Blackrock got off to a quick start in the second half with a goal and with fifty minutes gone it was all square at Kildorrery two fourteen and blackrock three eleven. Cathal Harrington was introduced for David hunter. James mac pointed to put us a point up. Blackrock goaled and pointed again. Kieran hurley responded with a well taken goal and with one minute of normal time left we were two points down. We brought it back to one but were unable to bridge the gap and so the scoreline and match concluded at Blackrock four fourteen and Kildorrery three sixteen. This was a huge blow to the team and mentors and supporters who had travelled to Glanworth. The sun shone on the venue, which was in pristine condition, but we had heavy hearts as we made our way back to the hill.

To the players selectors management and everyone associated with the team congrats on bringing great excitement to us again this year. While it was not to be our day you are a great bunch, and we will drive on again some time.
