Footballers draw with Adrigole

Sunday was the latest instalment of Kildorrery v Adrigole encounters. 45 years ago Adrigole and Kildorrery played Intermediate football county final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh 19 August 1979. Adrigole won 2-9 1-6. Kildorrery had won Co. junior the year before and would go on to win Intermediate in 1981. 45 years later Adrigole and Kildorrery still battling it out.

On Sunday we travelled to Coachford to play Adrigole in the second outing of the championship. It took a while for the team to settle and Adrigole were first off the mark with 2 points after breaking down the Kildorrery build-up play.

They had a goal chance that hit the post and followed it with another lovely point. This left us four points down with fifteen minutes gone. Sean Watson got our first point from a free shortly after this with Adrigole still flying and putting two more over the bar. This left the score at seven points to one down with twenty minutes gone.

Timmy made a great run to score a lovely point, followed by Peter and Luke, who slotted one each over the bar. This brought the gap down to four points. Luke scored another nice point and with Sean converting a free the halftime score was eight points to six in favour of Adrigole.

Kieran Hurley came on for Cathal Harrington at the start of the second half. There were a few nice movements and passing between the team which resulted in Peter giving a great pass to Pierce who slotted it into the back of the net. James K was doing great work tackling well and making some great turnovers and blocks along with the rest of the backline who were working hard to keep the opposition's lively forwards at bay. James O Sullivan was working hard and made some piercing runs through the Adrigole defence. One of these frees was converted by Sean, who levelled the match with 45 minutes gone. Dylan and Gerry were introduced at this point for Sean C and Luke. Sean W converted a mark to give us the lead for the first time, but Adrigole levelled with a lovely point. Dave Kelly was introduced at this point for James O. Before the final whistle was blown both teams scored once more leaving the final score at 1-10 to 13. This was a great comeback with a mighty team effort over all the pitch. It is all to play for with one more match left. (RK)
