Kildorrery (Cork) 0 - 12 Scartaglen (Kerry) 1 - 6
Kildorrery's dreams of provincial honours remain intact after sweeping past scartaglen in a rousing Munster Ladies Junior Football Championship semiFinal at Banteer.
The North Cork sides slicker and more cohesive play proved crucial to the games outcome.
Kildorrery were tuned into the game from the outset and chalked up four points without reply from Niamh Hickey as awell as Shelly and Eleanor Twohig. However any notion of a comfortable kildorrery win was soon dispelled as scartaglen's hopes gathered the perfect boost in the 17th minute. A Shot by tara Brosnan was partly stopped by Kildorrery keeper Orlaith Murphy so in nipped Amy Dunlea to score.
After playing second fiddle for the opening quarter, Scartaglen began to really move the ball, with two points from the accurate Julieann O'Connor eventually put them ahead. Indeed the kerry girls might've goaled a second time but kildorrery's murphy dealt capably with Dunlea's attempt. Still, the game was now moving in scartaglen's direction and points from Mary Herlihy and Elaine O'Connor gained teh team a 1-4 to 0-5 grip at the interval.
In the second half, Kildorrery drove forward with huge contributions from the Twohig sisters in addition to key input from Deirdre Murphy, joanne hennessy and Mairead Noonan.Eleanor Twohig pointed a free while excellent combined play yielded further points to hennessy, rose twohig and Annie O'Callaghan. A Sluggish scartaglen eventually answered a lovely point to Margaret O'Donoghue. However, it was Kildorrery which remained firmly in the driving seat and further points to Niamh walsh niamh hennessy and Eleanor twohig confirmed the team's dominance.
Scartaglen flooded forward in a desperate attempt to save the day. A few chances went abegging but another point to o'Donoghue offered some encouragement. However, Kildorrery remained defiant in the face of a late scartaglen onslaught and the cork girls champions held the nerve to advance to their first Munster decider.
