Kildorrery always in complete control against Aghabullogue
The Corkman - June 18 2009

KILDORRERY 2-12
AGHABULLOGUE 0-5

KILDORRERY were always in control against Aghabullogue in the their County IFC replay meeting at Mourneabbey on Sunday last to progress to a quarter-final meeting against Macroom. Aided by the strong breeze in the opening half the winners set out their intention from an early stage.

Aghabullogue's cause wasn't helped midway through this period when they lost key midfielder Niall Buckley who had to retire early with a broken collarbone. Gradually the Mid Cork side began to settle and for the rest of the half were to enjoy their fair share of possession with Peter Kelleher, Dan Twomey, Eddie Twomey, Pa Finnegan and Paul O'Rourke all excelling.

Pa Finnegan recorded their first score in the 12th minute with a pointed free and at the end of the first quarter a good movement involving Pa Finnegan, Peter Kelleher and Paul O'Rourke set up Robert O'Keeffe for a fine point. Further pressure led to Pa Finnegan with a great point reducing the deficit to just two points 0-5 to 03.

Gradually Kildorrery began to find their composure with Michael Walsh, Andrew O'Brien, Mike Monaghan, Eamon O'Connor, Jerry McCarthy, Dave White, Tom Monaghan and Peter O'Brien all very prominent for the rest of the game. John Howard pointed a free in the 27th minute following a foul on Tom Monaghan with Andrew O'Brien '45' and Stephen Coughlan also having points in injury time while Paul O'Rourke completed the scoring half scoring deep in additional time to trail by 0-8 to 0-4 at the interval.

On the changeover the expected Aghabullogue fightback never materialized and instead it was Kildorrery that gained a foothold on proceedings from the offset. In the 33rd minute great work by Eamon O'Connor led to Peter O'Brien having a quick point.

O'Brien added another point from long range before they killed off the Aghabullogue challenge in the 37th minute when they struck for their first goal through Mike Monaghan following a three man movement involving Jeremiah Aherne, Tom Monaghan, and John Howard to surge into a 110 to 0-4 advantage.

Try as they might Aghabullogue were unable to sustain any challenge during this period and at the end of the third quarter Kildorrery increased their advantage further when good play by Andrew O'Brien and Jeremiah Aherne put Tom Monaghan through for a well taken goal to make it 2-10 to 0-4.

In the last quarter Aghabullogue came close to a goal scoring opportunity when a good pass by Paul O'Rourke picked out Pa Finnegan who was denied by a fine save from the Kildorrery keeper Brendan Hannon with the rebound cleared to safety by John McCarthy. In the closing moments John Howard and Peter O'Brien added a late point before Aghabullogue recorded their only score during this half when Barry Kiely had a point in the 58th minute. However there was no denying Kildorrery their convincing win and their place in the quarter final against Macroom.
