| KILDORRERY 5-4
KILWORTH 0-8
Kildorrery took their 4th JAFC title on Sunday when they overcame Kilworth in a rather one sided Fermoy Credit Union JAFC final at Fitzgerald Park Fermoy.
The game started at a hectic pace and Kildorrery used the short passing to great effect to put the Kilworth defence under severe pressure. Kildorrery opened the scoring with an early pointed free by Austin Walsh.
The ‘Hill’ almost goaled in the 5th minute when good work by Tom Monaghan and Peter O’Brien should have seen Andrew O’Brien goal but his effort was saved off the goal line by Kieran O’Donoghue. Mike Monaghan and Peter O’Brien got on top at midfield but Kildorrery found scores very hard to gain from here on.
The ‘Hill’ had a goal in the 10th minute when Michael Walsh, Eamonn O’Connor and Andrew O’Brien worked well for Dave White to goal. Kilworth had a number of wides and it took them to the 18th minute to register their first score - a point by Justin Aherne.
Kilworth continued to miss chances and it was Kildorrery who had a point when Liam Kelly placed Tom Monaghan who sent over. Kilworth again missed a few chances before Elton Pierce placed Paudie Lynch for a point and he followed soon after with another point.
In the 29th minute good work by William Twomey and Damian O’Donoghue led to a point by Jack Crowley. Kildorrery, with a late point by Richie McEniry, led at the interval 1-3 to 0-4.
The second half saw Kildorrery get off to a dream start. Good work in the third minute by impressive Peter O’Brien and Dave White led to a quick goal by Tom Monaghan. A minute later the ‘Hill’ had another goal by Andrew O’Brien after his younger brother Peter put him through. This opened up a big lead 3-3 to 0-4.
Kilworth struggled from here on. They had a point by the impressive Damien O’Donoghue after being put through by Elton Pierce. Pierce pointed in the 40th minute and the lead was down to 6 points, 3-3 to 0-6.
Any chance of a Kilworth recovery was killed off when Tom Monaghan was brought down on the edge of the square. Dave White billowed the net with the resultant penalty. The score now stood at 4-3 to 0-6. Austin Walsh combined well for Andrew O’Brien to have a second goal with 8 minutes remaining.
Kilworth battled against the odds and Justin Aherne had two late points one from a free. Andrew O’Brien completed the scoring with a late point. Over the hour Kildorrery had 11 wides. The ‘Hill’ had 4 wides in the first half with Kilworth having 7. Kilworth had no wide in the second half.
Kildorrery now meet the Carrigdhoun champions in the Co quarter final this Sunday in Riverstown.
